The Minority in Parliament is threatening to drag President John Mahama to court over the setting –up of the Judgment Debt commission, an act they believe was calculated to hide corruption.
This follows the release of a government white paper on the work of the Sole Commissioner after about three years of investigating dubious judgment debts in the country.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ZkhWe9aiQ9xf7yduYC90SJmZWF196qq2″]In an interview with Citi News, Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said the President Mahama had no business setting-up the commission when the issues were before the legislature.
“I think that the decision by the President to deal with matters that were pending before Parliament which Parliament has the constitutional responsibility to deal with …was unconstitutional. The matter had already been dealt with by the Auditor General and the report on same, pending before Parliament so how do you create another body knowing that the Public Accounts Committee or Parliament that is charged to deal with it was handling it ?…”
But ranking member of the Public Accounts Committee Ibrahim Dey Abubakar believes the President did no wrong by constituting the commission.
Speaking to Citi News, the Salaga South MP President said : “Let me say that nothing prevents anybody including the President when there is a criminal case to send the case or direct the Attorney General to adjudicate. If there is a criminal case, we are have still not been able to resolve the issue but I hope we will resolve whatever happens because the most important thing is that anybody can take a criminal case to the court…”
