Charlotte Otuwa Odoom, a 47 year old consultant and an educationist, has been confirmed as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western Region.
Out of the 70 Assembly Members present, 68 voted “yes” for the President’s nominee representing 97 per cent with two voting no.
Charlotte Otuwa Odoom becomes the first female MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi replacing the immediate past MCE Captain Anthony Cudjoe (Rtd).
She worked for the Assembly for many years as a Finance Officer during the PNDC/NDC era. She also contested the NDC’s parliamentary primary ahead of the 2012 elections but did not win the slot.
Thursday’s voting was supervised by Stephen Opoku Mensah, the Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.
Madam Odoom expressed gratitude to the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in her and promised to work with all the members to accelerate the development of the metropolis.
The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, urged the newly elected MCE to respect members of the assembly and everyone she would be working with.
“The number that voted for you indicated that the Assembly members are ready to work with you so be reminded that the Assembly members can make and unmake you.”
