The Northern Regional Secretariat of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has in collaboration with the Drivers and Vehicular Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), arrested hundreds of motorists in the Tamale Metropolis for various traffic offences.

The Regional Director of the NRSC, Alex Ayatar, who supervised the operation in a Citi News interview declared zero tolerance for road indiscipline.

He served notice that the culprits will face the full rigors of the law as a means of ensuring discipline on the road.

[contextly_sidebar id=”vvWZxV0eZ5Q9v7vphT8gTZ6lgkiA9qRU”]According to him, the region recorded the highest cases of road carnage for the first quarter of 2015.

He said between January and September, the region recorded 192 road traffic crashes which involved 141 vehicles.

This he said resulted in the death of 82 people whiles 341 were severely injured.

Alex Ayatar said the operation will continue unabated and thereby cautioned chiefs, opinion and religious leaders against interference in their work.

He encouraged motorists’ especially commercial drivers in the Tamale Metropolis, to respect the rights of pedestrians.

Alex Ayatar further advised transport owners to desist from recruiting minors as drivers.
