Former national team coach E.K. Afranie has described the 2015 football year as ”successful” for the nation with the Black Queens winning gold at the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

The Black Stars finished second in the 2015 AFCON after losing to Cote d’Ivoire in the finals while the Black Princesses qualified to the 2016 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

For Afranie, these achievements have made the year a good one for Ghana in terms of football especially in the area of growing talents.

“The year was not that bad at all for us. I have heard a lot of people say that local football was not the best but when it comes to the national teams, I believe we did well. The women’s team won gold and that should tell us to pay more attention to them. When we talk about football development, we should not forget about the women’s game.

“The Princesses have made it to the next World Cup and we see that both our male and female teams are now participating more regularly in the international competitions.”
