The Power Ministry has discounted claims that it did not properly scrutinize the AMERI Energy power project before signing onto it.

Sections of the Norwegian media have reported that neither the power company nor government did due diligence on the project which has resulted in some fraudulent transactions.

[contextly_sidebar id=”JfxQlRLzceLwWXKtVlck817hidGG9mgW”]But the Public Relations Officer of Power Ministry, Mr. Edward Bawa discredited these claims.

He said there was due diligence at every level, including even a parliamentary scrutiny before the multi million dollar deal was approved.

“Bank of Ghana conducted a due diligence, internationally we got  J.P Morgan to the same, the Ministry of Power and Attorney General did same and Parliament also scrutinised the agreement before it was signed,”Bawa said.

Meanwhile one of the Norwegian Journalists, whose report has exposed some critical questions on the deal, Amund Bakke Foss, has in a Citi News interview insisted that the country could have acquired the plants at a cheaper cost without AMERI, which played the role of “middlemen”.

The journalist questioned why Ghana contacted AMERI Power who also contracted another company in Greece METKA-which finally procured the equipment from American firm General Electric (GE) when the country could have purchased directly to cut down middlemen interference and cost.
