The Police will this week put before court a number of traders who were recently arrested in connection with large quantities of adulterated palm oil confiscated by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

Palm oil samples picked from various markets in Accra according to FDA contained highly dangerous textile dye which causes cancer.

According to the FDA some of the samples also contained ‘sudee’ dye, which is not listed among the colors in food production, and prohibited under Ghana’s Public Health Safety laws.

Speaking to Citi Business News on the matter, the spokesperson for the FDA, James Lartey said, the authority is still recording cases of adulterated palm oil.

“We still pick samples from the market for testing and we have noticed that some are failing and some are passing those who were arrested, I spoke to the police and they are being processed to court. They had to visit some production sites and conduct further tests and analysis; they just finished the processes,” James Lartey stated.
