Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien says he is delighted to have made a return to football after 7 months out due to a knee injury.

The former Chelsea player joined Greek side Panathinaikos in June, but had not played because of troubles with his knee but he featured fully in the club’s last two matches.

He says he feels great at his return but he is seeking to be fitter for the demands of the season.

“I am happy to be back to the pitch. Injuries are part of the game but I am not putting pressure on myself. I just enjoy every moment and I will continue to listen to the doctors and get on with my job. Once an injury occurs, you have to calm down and take advice from the medical people. That is what I did. I need to play more matches so that I will get back to the high levels I was sometime back. I have to keep working hard in training and take the chances to play when I get them.”

Essien has featured for Panathinaikos in their matches against Iraklis and Veria and it is expected that he will be part of the team that will face Astreras Tripolis in the Greek Super League on Sunday.
