Update: Helicopter crash: 3 dead, 1 missing

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that 3 people have died from the helicopter crash that occurred earlier on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

The acting Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt. Col Aggrey Quashie told Citi News, “8 people were on board the helicopter, 4 are alive, 3 confirmed dead and 1 is missing.”

He further indicated that rescue efforts are still ongoing although the cause of the crash is unknown.

According to him, his outfit is yet “to get further details on the cause of the crash but what I can say is that, the rescued people have been sent to a hospital in Takoradi for treatment.”

The Deputy General Secretary of the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union, Francis Salla has also confirmed to Citi News that 6 of the 8 people on board the helicopter were workers of Schlumberger, an oil company.

The two others are believed to be crew members of the helicopter which belonged to an oil company, Luk Oil.
