A former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Steven Adei, has bemoaned the poor work attitude of most Ghanaians blaming such behaviors largely on “our culture”.
Prof. Adei, speaking on “Time with legends” segment of the Citi Breakfast Show, said the typical Ghanaian apathy towards work must change to help transform the nation both in private and public work.
[contextly_sidebar id=”k8QEnYwNHZfS0sjjZgvFD3tELBUZrsl1″]He noted that the lackadaisical work ethic on the part of workers and a “legendary” stealing culture at the workplace, is detrimental to national development, adding that “it is the responsibility of leadership to change culture”.
He wondered why those seeking to be Parliamentarians would have to spend about Ghc20,000 to achieve their aim when their monthly salary is around 8,000 cedis, blaming this on a negative culture that needs to change.
According to him, overcoming the Ghanaian culture that seems to promote corruption is vital to the fight against the canker, adding it lies on leadership to effect the needed change.
“Our culture demands you do wrong, and any leader who would not confront their culture is not going to be able to transform the company or the society or the county.” he noted.
