Some Ghanaian haulage drivers who ply the Ghana – Burkina Faso route are accusing their Burkinabe counterparts in the haulage business of physically assaulting them on regular basis.

According to the drivers, an illegal document called ‘Bond de Chargement’ has been imposed on them and failure to pay usually results in them being assaulted at the Burkinabe border.

The chairman of the Joint Association of Port Transport Union, Husein Isahak said if the authorities fail to come to their aid, they will be forced to retaliate.

Mr. Isahak however stated, “we don’t wasn’t to do any violence in this country. This country is peaceful and we are here to ask them to help us… No more ‘Bond de Chargement’ papers in this country again.”

He revealed the union has made their demands known via numerous letters to the port authority but have yet to receive a response from the port directors or other authorities.

Mr. Isahak also demands the Burkinabe truck drivers not be allowed to operate in this country saying, “We they executives of JAPTU will not permit the Union of Burkina Faso to operate in this county anymore. They must leave and their office must be closed down.”
