The Ministry’s of Education’s decision to scrap the teacher’s motivation allowance continues to ruffle feathers on the education front with the Coalition of Concerned teachers (CCT) chiming in on the scrapping of the “motivation allowance”.
[contextly_sidebar id=”qkFF0ZePJQVzIVB4V85qaaPqADk21zfS”]The allowance, not included in their conditions of service, was levied on students at the Senior high school level but has outlived its usefulness according to the Ministry of Education.
In an interview with Citi News, the General Secretary of the CCT, Raymond Boakye Darkwa insists the government had no business touching a policy they did not institute.
He also disagreed with government’s assertion that they had scrapped the motivation allowance because parents of wards were complaining.
He stated that the arrangement to pay the allowance was as a result of the teachers extra commitments to teaching pupils so as to overcome the timeline challenges with handling the bulky education curriculum.
These extra commitments include an extra two hours in the classroom, which is to the ultimate benefit of both student and teachers hence the decision to introduce the “motivation allowance.”
