The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Disciplinary Committee has submitted a report seeking to crack the whip on the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, by handing him a 15-month suspension from the party.
The party in what appears to be a cleansing exercise has already suspended its National Chairman Paul Afoko, albeit under controversial circumstances.
That suspension is currently a subject of a legal tussle since Mr. Afoko, who has described the decision as unconstitutional, is in court to get it overturned.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Nee6eD8grIjlr0Nfd2r8yrP1rVbDj7XV”]The Reverend Emmanuel Asante Antwi-led Disciplinary Committee presented its report on Mr. Agyepong and Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe, to the National Executive Committee (NEC), which will meet in the next two days to approve or reject it.
The Committee, has also recommended that the Second National Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe, also be suspended indefinitely.
Mr. Crabbe, who is perceived as an ally to the suspended National Chairman, refused to appear before the committee after several invitations.
Mr. Agyepong, by his posture, is perceived to have supported Mr. Paul Afoko, an action considered as an affront to the regulations of the party.
If the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee is upheld, Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe will join Paul Afoko as national officers who have been suspended by the party in less than three months.
Some political observers have warned that suspending Mr. Agyepong will deepen the party’s internal strife, but others disagree.
