The office of the Parliament has stated, any defects and problems in the one-month old Job 600 complex will be repaired by the contractors “immediately” per contractual agreement.

On Monday the media reported massive leakages in some parts of the roof of the $87 million refurbished complex which have affected the elevators because when it rains, water seeps into the electric motors which drive the traction cables and the counterweight systems of the elevators thus rendering them incapable of operating.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qSwGbwdMFBzAC9xhyVuDoDGzvvs3KUd8″]However, the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, later rejected media reports that the faulty elevators in Job 600 were caused by leakages in the roof.

In a statement responding to the media reportage, the office stated that the contractors responsible for the refurbishing of the builidng, the China State Hualong Construction Company Ltd, will handle the repairs per a one year Defect Liability Period agreement.

“There is a one year Defect Liability Period in which any defects or problems that may crop up would be immediately repaired or rectified by the contractors and facility managers and both parties are committed to ensuring ta this agreement is adhered to.”

The statement also noted that the elevators were under routine maintenance by the contractors and that inactivity of the security scanners was due, not to a defect but routine maintenance.

“The contractors have accordingly informed the office that two of the elevators are under routine maintenance with certain parts being replaced. The scanners on the other hand to be tuned off for routine maintenance work.”

Below is the full statement.

Our attention has been drawn to a publication on the back page of the of the December 7 edition of the Daily Graphic captioned “elevator, scanners of Job 600 breakdown; A month after inauguration”.

A similar story titled “Job 600 leaks, Roofing Falling Apart “has also been carried on the same day’s edition of The Chronicle.

In the said publications, the Parliamentary correspondents reported that certain functions and parts of the Job 600 Building which has been refurbished for the use by parliamentarians as offices have developed problems shortly after the inauguration of the building by the president.

The office of Parliament  wishes to state that, as part of the contractual agreement with the contractors and the facility managers, there is a one year Defect Liability Period in which any defects or problems that may crop up would be immediately repaired or rectified by the contractors and facility managers and both parties are committed to ensuring ta this agreement is adhered to.

It is pertinent to note that the managers of the facility are on the site to ensure that all mal-functioning parts the facilities are repaired while problems that may occur are immediately rectified. The contractors have accordingly informed the office that two of the elevators are under routine maintenance with certain parts being replaced. The scanners on the other had to be turned off for routine maintenance work.

Parliament also wishes to inform the general public that, following the inauguration of the building, members of parliament have moved into their various offices and are making the best use of the facility.

Meanwhile, the office for Parliament will like to inform the media that our offices are open to clarification on issues such as the above ad will encourage them to cross check facts with the office in order to reflect both sides of the stories.
