The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, has given the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) up to Monday, December 7, to produce documentary evidence of its supposed ex-gratia payment to four former employees.

The four former employees are the former CEO Tsatsu Tsikata, Public Relations Manager Esther Cobbah, Nana Boakye Asafu-Adjaye (Ag. Chief Executive) and Mr. Benjamin Dagadu (Field Evaluation and Development Manager).

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy hauled the GNPC heads before it on Wednesday to explain circumstances leading to the payments.

Speaking to Citi News, the Committee Chairman on Mines and Energy, Ahmadu Sorogho, said the meeting had to be rescheduled to enable GNPC to produce documents to back the payments.

He said, GNPC had told them that only one out of the four had been paid.

“We know that the notice for them to appear before us got to them very late so one cannot hold them for not adequately preparing. I think the Chief Executive had it around 8pm through his mail, and so he couldn’t have been well  prepared in terms of documents,” he said.

Ahmadu Soroghu noted that GNPC briefed them well enough on the matter but could not substantiate their stance with documentary evidence.

“…They agreed that they have them [documents] but were not readily available to them. So the committee unanimously agreed that they should provide us with those documents latest by Monday; so that on Wednesday; we can meet and conclude on the issue. They said a lot of things but we need evidence and they said they have the documents.”
