A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison by an Akyem-Swedru Circuit Court for posing as a qualified medical doctor.
The accused in question can however avoid the four-year prison sentence if he pays a fine of 20,000 Ghana Cedis.
It was revealed that the accused had been working as a fake doctor under two names; Dr. Samuel Owusu Jnr and Emmanuel Owusu Dotse.
He was arrested at his residence, which also doubled as his clinic at Akye-Oda Roman Down, following reports made to the police on the morning of November 30.
The reports to the police indicated that he had been administering medical care to unsuspecting patients under the guise of being a qualified doctor. He was attending to a patient when the police picked him up.
Police interrogation revealed that he had been practicing medicine without proper qualifications for the past 5 years in places like Nkawkaw, Suhum and Assin-fosu among others.
Some certificates and hospital equipment were retrieved from the scene of the arrest.
The Divisional Police Commander for Akyem-Oda, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Ampofo, speaking to the media appealed to Ghanaians to seek medical care from duly accredited health centers.
