The Disciplinary Committee of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to announce its decision following investigations into the conduct of its General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong and Second National Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe.
[contextly_sidebar id=”FsR21B2sYXbYpDEsAq34B4zJHkVGJExE”]The two national officers are reported to have gone contrary to party rules, by taking entrenched positions against the suspension of the party’s National Chairman Paul Afoko.
Their posture according to some members who petitioned the party, constitutes a breach of its rules.
Mr. Sammy Crabbe, who has consistently described Mr. Afoko’s suspension as illegal and proven to be his close ally on several occasions, recently snubbed the party’s Disciplinary Committee after being asked to appear before it.
Political watchers say attempts to suspend alleged Afoko loyalists are gradually weaning the NPP’s democratic credentials.
But speaking to Citi News, Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Boahene, said instilling discipline is vital for the survival of any association, adding the party will not hesitate to crack the whip.
“The point is that, this is an organization, it is an institution, a political party. All of us have subscribed to a certain opinion. We are all members; there are the do’s and the don’ts and it’s as simple as that. When you go wrong, there are measures that will be taken, when you go right, there are measures to be taken.”
“So when you go wrong, when you break the laws of the party, when you violate the laws of the party, and then sanctions are taken against you, I don’t think that is the matter of trying to get you out of the institution . It is a matter of drawing your attention to the fact that there is a border line and make sure you do not cross the border line,” he explained.
