Several persons including the Keta Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent, Alex Wowolo have been injured following a clash between some residents of Agbozume and a foreign salt mining company in the Ketu South Municipality.

The enraged locals at Agbozume-Tagba who claimed the foreign salt mining company, Kessington Salt Factory, has encroached on their allotted section of the lagoon, also accused the company of dumping their scooped sand on their mined salt.

During the riot on Wednesday morning, the Keta Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Wowolo and two other officers were assaulted.

The two are currently receiving treatment at the Denu District Hospital.

The residents claimed that the salt mining concession, which is in contention, has been given out to the Indian Company, Kessington Salt Factory, without any consultation with the indigenes of the community.

The riot, Citi News gathered, is the latest of previous agitations between the locals and the foreign firm.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Mr. Perterking Yentumi Gynae, who confirmed the incident to Citi News said he has deployed his officers to the area to restore calm.
