The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three taxi drivers alleged to have robbed unsuspecting passengers who patronize their services.
Addressing journalists, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, said the leader of the group was an ex-convict who was arrested for the same offence a year ago.
[contextly_sidebar id=”2AAdufJRodpO8C1fnbMWCnZyMS8bu0YQ”]Stating the facts of the case, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye said a police patrol had received reports of a man being robbed on the morning of the 28th November and subsequently made their way to scene to intervene.
He said the police pursued the robbers, who had abandoned their vehicle and the passenger they had robbed, and eventually apprehended them.
A search on them revealed a cell phone and an amount of money, which the passenger later identified as his.
It was also revealed the suspect had bought a taxicab just for robbery operations. According to him, they have so far succeeded in more than 20 of such operations in the community before their arrest.
DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye assured the public that the police were doing all they could to apprehend other perpetrators of similar crimes and further appealed to the public to report any taxi driver who they suspect of belonging to the gang of robbers.
