A Madina District Magistrate Court has ordered embattled President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Paa-Quecy Adu, to step aside until a case challenging his eligibility is resolved.

The National Executive Committee of NUGS early in November this year, suspended Paa-Quecy Adu over a pending lawsuit to allow a final determination by the court.

Mr. Adu not qualified

Press and Information Secretary for NUGS, Thomas Takyi Bonsu, had told Citi News that Mr. Adu who vied for the NUGS presidency on several occasions, was disqualified because per their constitution, any person vying for such position must be a full-time student.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zmeEsT6r0gCmbnVqI1Qr14W5ScIbdbdy”]“…This year, he contested and was disqualified based on the same reason and the judicial committee of the union reversed the decision of the vetting committee. That made him qualified to contest. So some students [Ferdinand Boakye Boateng and Paul Kwasi Gyan] are saying that they are still not okay with that and they are taking the same issue to the court.”

The Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship, Richard D. Anku, in its ruling on November 26, ordered that Mr. Adu should not hold or transact any business in the name of NUGS until a final determination on the matter is made.

” It is hereby ordered that the defendant whether by himself, his agents, assigns, privies and any other person claiming by or through him hereby restrain from describing or holding himself as or acting conveying any meeting in the name of the plaintiffs or transacting any or purporting to act as a National Executive Member of NUGS and from in any manner interfering with the said National Executive Members of NUGS including the convening of meetings and/or transacting any business in the name and under the authority of the plaintiff/applicant pending the final hearing and determination of this suit or until otherwise ordered,” the court added.

In a related development,  a statement from NUGS says they will not accept any responsibility for actions initiated by the beleaguered president “purporting to act as an official of NUGS.”

“The general public is hereby advised to refrain from dealing with Mr. Paa-Quecy Adu in any capacity as a NUGS official. His actions are his own responsibility and not that of NUGS” the statement added.
