Accountants have been challenged to work with professionalism and diligence in order to ensure that public resources are effectively and efficiently managed to promote development in the country.

Research has identified that accountants have critical roles to play in every economy since the growth and development of every economy, hinges much on how resources are judiciously used.

It is against this backdrop that Young Professional Accountants Network Ghana, has been launched in Accra under the theme: The Role of The Accountant in the Economy”.

Addressing the media during the launch, the Founder and President of the Young Professional Accountants Network Ghana, Mr. Oheneba Kwabena Kena, explained that the network is a non – profit and non-partisan organization established to raise young accountants to be business leaders in order to impact positively on the society and the economy as well.

“The idea is to bring, connect and inspire accountants not to only make an impact in their organization but the economy and society.”

He explained that, accountants in the 21st century are not just debit and credit masters; but they are also business leaders, adding the network will provide platforms for accountants to share ideas in order to bring transformation to the various sectors of the economy, and also provide networking opportunities, mentorship sessions and professional development.

According to him, the network has decided to increase its membership scope by including accounting students and graduates from various universities, adding they will provide free practical accounting training and professional development courses to help them acquire some relevant techniques.

The Vice- Chancellor of Abbeam Institute of Technology, Mrs Evelyn Abbeam Danso, urged accountants to abide by the profession’s code of ethics, and uphold the public trust by exhibiting moral uprightness and eschewing all manner of wrongdoing regardless of the temptations.

She also called on them to view the accountancy profession as an enterprise to promote transparency, integrity and accountability in order to strengthen the economy.
