La Chiefs resist sale of school land for shopping mall [Photos]

Elders of the La Traditional area on Wednesday stormed the school of Land Survey and Marking, to warn the Lands Commission against selling the land.

According to them, the land is a property of the La Community and they have no right to sell it without their permission.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZqB76mRSTLHbYbgynq8vr5j55StNPiEk”]The traditional authorities, who painted the walls of the school with warning statements, asked the Lands Commission to keep off their property or face dire consequences.

Allegations are that the land has been sold to some foreign investors to build a shopping mall.

Students of the school have already embarked on demonstrations against the attempted sale which will eventually lead to the demolition of their school building.

Numo Tsane Ohomeh, Nyomotsaa Wulomo of the La Stool land said they as the rightful owners, have not authorized the sale of the land, and cautioned the Lands Commission to engage the La Traditional Council for the necessary discussions.

He also alleged that the land was sold for thirty one million dollars to a foreign company but he insists the traditional authority will resist it.

“This plot is not for sale, we are not selling it right now. We have to maintain the school so that our children will come and benefit something from the school”.

According to the students who demonstrated last week, their worry is that adequate preparations have not been made to relocate them to a convenient site.

The students therefore embarked on a demonstration to plead with the lands authorities to provide them with well structured school blocks to replace their classrooms before they vacate the premises.
