Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie believes Government and the FA are on the path to repairing what has been a rocky and suspicious relationship.
The GFA came under intense scrutiny from the state following a series of events which culminated in the elimination of the Black Stars from the Group stages of the World Cup in Brazil.
The resulting events from the Brazil 2014 World Cup led to the setting up of a Presidential Commission of Enquiry whose report revealed a series of activities pointing to mismanagement and misappropriation at various levels involving the Sports Ministry and the GFA.
George Afriyie who is also management committee member of the Black Stars believes the sour history between the two bodies has prevailed over the years due to stereotypes state officials have about the local football governing body.
“State officials like the Sports Ministers come into the position with people filling their heads with all sorts of ideas about the FA.”
“When they finally occupy the position they find out what they heard was wrong.”
“People come in and they find it difficult to adjust and try to be cautious of the Football Association.”
“When honorable Mustapha Ahmed took the seat there were some challenges but I can tell you that no he understands the problems here and is coping.”
“The relationship used to be very frosty but now its getting better,” he told Citi Fm.
The Ghana Football Association has been given a score of zero by Transparency International in its latest report on transparency among 209 football associations around the world.
