The Power Ministry says the recent intensification of load shedding is as a result of the shutdown of the Ghana National Gas Company at Atuabo in the Western Region.
The shutdown is to enable the African Middle East Investment (AMERI) Power Plant to be connected to the supply of gas from Ghana Gas.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has over the past few weeks been shedding load in the country citing insufficient power generation.

The current increase in the quantum of load shedding in the country has come about as a result of the shutdown of Ghana National Gas Company Ltd, (Ghana Gas) an Atuabo to enable the African Middle East Investment Power Plant (AMERI) to be connected into the gas supply system of Ghana Gas.
The AMERI plant at Aboadzie currently being installed, is expected to generate additional 250 MW into the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) when fully commissioned.
Engineers of both the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd (Ghana Gas) and AMERI are working round the clock to complete the connection of the gas line and to ameliorate the recent further decline on power supply in the country.
