The Accra Police Command has arrested some 11 persons for their alleged roles in the ransacking of the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday.
Reports indicate that some six, persons dressed in military uniform, were led by others in plain clothes to carry out the act.
The men reportedly searched the offices after locking up the security guards.
But one security guard informed the police that he knows one of the men who invaded the office as a member of the NPP.
[contextly_sidebar id=”LleF8iibE3eiY3PVwSA2ecY9X0zLn6wY”]But the identities of 11 arrested are unknown for now. Executives of the NPP have lodged a complaint at the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for them to take over the matter from the Accra Police Command.
Among the items taken away from the office includes the hard disk of the computer used by the party’s Director of Elections Martin Adjei Korsah-Mensah.
Police officers are on high alert at the premises of the party as investigations are underway.
The party’s acting National Chairman Freddie Blay, has told journalists, the police suspects some influential persons may have masterminded the incident. He says the party will carry out its own investigations whiles the police also carries out its probe.
“They forced their ways upstairs and broke all kinds of things in our offices. They damaged a lot of cupboards, TVs and others. But we have not had the opportunity to enter to find out more because the police have cordoned off the place and are investigating. We want to keep quiet about it for now until we are told exactly what has happened.”
“We are convinced they are a junk of ruffians either sent by some individuals or by some powerful people who want to create an impression that we have problems in the party because they came at dawn. We are keeping quit for the police to come out with their investigation; we’ve been made to believe that eleven of those who came have been arrested although those who were in uniform have not yet been identified. But we are doing our own investigation because some of the watchmen identified one or two of those who were in uniform”.
Meanwhile Mr. Paul Afoko has in a statement condemned the incident describing it as unfortunate.
