The suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the ransacking of the party’s national headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Monday morning.

Mr. Afoko’s statement comes despite attempts by some persons to link him to the incident.

Reports indicate that some six persons believed to be loyalists of Mr. Afoko dressed in military attire, carried out the act.

[contextly_sidebar id=”dIxsgRPI4KNBbCVb1G1X2Axf2OnOIN9M”]The men reportedly searched the offices  after locking up the security guards.

A security guard confirmed that he knows one of the men who invaded the office as a member of the NPP.

Meanwhile the police so far has arrested some 11 people in relation to the incident.

But the details of those arrested are unknown for now. It is also unclear yet what items have been taken away from the office as police personnel have been dispatched to the scene to investigate the matter and also to maintain law and order.

Citi News’ Fred Djabanor who reported from the scene said the party’s private security firm known as the ‘invincible forces’ that had been guarding the office in recent times were not present.

But Mr. Paul Afoko in a statement released on Monday in which he still describes himself as the Chairman, condemned the incident and asked the police to investigate it.

The statement signed by his Spokesperson Nana Yaw Osei, also described as worrying reports that some weapons were found at the party headquarters.

Below is the statement

INCIDENTS AT PARTY HEADQUARTERS UNFORTUNATE

Mr. Paul A. Afoko, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has learnt with dismay the incidents at the party headquarters, and on the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korley Constituency, Nii Noi Nortey.
These unfortunate incidents happened last night.

Mr. Afoko condemns in no uncertain terms these incidents and describes same as dents on the party’s image.

Reports of weapons having been found at the party headquarters is even more worrying.

These developments are distasteful especially at a time Mr. Afoko is challenging the constitutional breaches some party members have persistently engaged in.

The security agencies must thoroughly investigate these incidents and get to the bottom of the matter.

Thank you.

Nana Yaw Osei, Spokesperson for National Chairman, NPP.
