Vice President K. B. Amissah-Arthur has called for closer collaboration with the City of Houston, Texas particularly in the oil and gas sector, observing that, such collaboration could be mutually beneficial.

Mr Amissah-Arthur made the call when he met with the Mayor of Houston, Texas, Annise D. Parker, at the City Hall of Houston on Monday.

The Vice President is attending the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, and he is scheduled to make a case for investment opportunities in Ghana’s oil and gas industry when he addresses industry players on Tuesday.

The Conference, the offshore oil and gas industry’s foremost event for the development of hydrocarbon resources in the areas of drilling, environmental protection, exploration, production development, innovation and technology, ends on May 8, 2014.

Addressing the Mayor of Houston, Mr Amissah-Arthur said, whilst there is a lot to learn from Houston’s oil and gas industry, there is also huge potential for investment in Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

He therefore urged oil and gas companies to seize the opportunity by investing in various sectors of the country’s oil and gas sector.

He also pointed out that collaboration in the area of fuel craft training such as maintenance and welding, and higher level education in oil and gas would be required to propel Ghanaians to various levels of employment in the local oil and gas industry.
