Adele says she won’t let body image issues rule her life

Adele sat down for a SiriusXM Town Hall conversation Monday with Jenny Eliscu to talk about her upcoming album, “25.” While answering fan questions, the 27-year-old singer talked about body image, while also opening up about the music she listens to when she’s sad (hint: it’s not Adele).

“I try to listen to music that might uplift me a little bit, but I just don’t really connect with it, and music for me is all about connection,” said the singer to Eliscu. And when she’s glum, only one voice will suffice. “Mainly Jeff Buckley, I’d say and that’s been my entire life I’d done that.”

While Adele might be sad for any number of reasons, there’s one thing she doesn’t let get her down — body image.

“I do have body image problems, for sure, but I don’t let them rule my life at all,” she said on Sirius XM. “And there’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I feel about myself and stuff like that.”

Adele’s comments are a similar sentiment to what she discussed in a 2011 Rolling Stone interview, during a time when critics were openly discussing her weight.

“I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down,” the singer told the magazine. “And I don’t want that in my life. I have insecurities, of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.”

Amen, Adele.
