Officials of the Electoral Commission in the Ningo Prampram Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, have put on hold ongoing elections in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary primaries.

Citi News’ Tema Correspondent, Elvis Washington, who is monitoring the process in the Ningo Prampram constituency, says the EC was forced to take the decision following rising tension in the constituency.

He says the voting materials are currently being kept at the police station.

One of the aspirants in the constituency, Sam George, has alleged that his name and that of other 3,000 delegates have been deleted from the voters’ register.

[contextly_sidebar id=”dOJFfqttPbC7ucahHHcsXaXF8nZ45eh8″]According to him, he had asked for the register for so long to check some of these irregularities but the NDC’s Electoral Directorate failed to give it out.

He further stated that “the Electoral Commission only received the register at 1: 25 am this [Saturday] dawn.”

He also alleged that some executives of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region including the Chairman, Ade Coker, are behind attempts to manipulate the process against him in favour of his opponent, E.T. Mensah.

Ningo Prampram is one of the hotspots in the primaries as Sam George; seeks to unseat Mr. E.T Mensah, who is seeking a fifth term in Parliament.

Citi News’ Elvis Washington says the decision to suspended the elections was taken after the aspirants held a meeting with EC and security officials.

Meanwhile the NDC’s Chairman in the Greater Accra Region, Ade Coker, has told Citi News the voters’ register would be made available publicly to the aspirants later today for the elections to come off tomorrow [Sunday].

Meanwhile Mr. E.T. Mensah has dismissed allegations that he masterminded the deletion of names including that of Sam George from the voters’ register.
