A standoff has rocked the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primary in the Kumbungu constituency of the Northern Region.

Three other contestants including Dr. Yakubu Hamza and a former Member of Parliament Alhaji Yakubu Imoro Kakpagu challenged the credibility of the compiled voters register.

They alleged that the register was doctored to favour Ras Mubarak.

The Northern Regional NDC Secretary, Lawyer Rauf Khalid described the situation as a mere misunderstanding.

He assured them of fair resolution to enable the registered voters exercise their franchise.

The incumbent Kumbungu MP, Amadu Moses Yahaya won the seat during a by-election on the ticket of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP).

The election was conducted on April 30, 2013 during which the New Patriotic Party did not field a candidate and supported the CPP candidate.

Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni vacated his seat and assumed office as Secretary General of the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group.
