The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso, says Ghana ought to seek “economic salvation” by fighting corruption and working towards increased productivity.
“As Ghanaians, we must seek economic salvation. All it takes to do this is one act of service, one blow against corruption and increased productivity,” she said.
Madam Ntoso said this in a speech read on her behalf at the 8th Biennial Colleges of Education Sports Association (COESA) Games at Akatsi in the Volta Region.
She said although the government was doing its bit by expanding infrastructure and extending social amenities to deprived areas, the present economic situation demands support from all.
“As people of common heritage, we must think about a new kind of politics…that builds upon those shared understanding that pulls us together as Ghanaians,” Madam Ntoso said.
According to her, that is the only way for the country to be clear about its vision and place in the world, adding that, government was aware of the poor state of sporting facilities and equipment in the various colleges and assured that they would be addressed.
She advised the participants to compete in the spirit of friendship, respect and fair play.
Mrs Georgina Lartey, President of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), said the Colleges were nurturing a lot of sporting talents and urged managers of national teams to discover and develop those talents for the country to maintain its enviable position in sports at the world stage.
She said the event was revived to bring to the fore, the importance the Colleges attached to the development of sporting knowledge and talents of teacher trainees.
The 38 Colleges of Education have been grouped into five zones to compete for laurels in soccer, volleyball, table tennis, handball, netball, cross country and athletics for one week.
