President John Dramani Mahama has ridiculed the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the current standoff in the party following the suspension of its National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

“One mark of competent leadership is to manage and unite people. The NPP should learn this,” he said.

President Mahama made the comment in the Volta Region where he ended his #ChangingLives #TransformingGhana tour.

[contextly_sidebar id=”rBnnXtLY2TRJwXMmriAllmHU5HVpkgsh”]The NPP’s first Vice Chair, Freddie Blay was elevated to the position of acting Chairman, following the suspension of Paul Afoko.

Mr. Afoko, who has contended his suspension announced that he would challenge the party’s decision at a press conference on Wednesday .

Addressing NDC members in the Volta Region, President Mahama wondered why Freddie Blay also held a press conference on the same day to respond to his [Mahama’s] criticism of NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, instead of focusing on the internal troubles.

Rabbit press confab

President Mahama further admonished Freddie Blay to focus on uniting the NPP instead of organizing what he described as “rabbit press conferences.”

“On the day that ‘Opana’ was doing press conference to respond to me, someone else was doing press conference saying I am the chairman. Who is the chairman? Right now I don’t know who to address. One says I’m the acting chairman, another says I am still the chairman.”
