The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region, has taken a swipe at former Attorney General (AG) Martin Amidu for some comments he is believed to have made against President John Dramani Mahama.

The former AG, affectionately referred to as ‘Citizen Vigilante,’ speaking on Accra based Joy FM last Saturday, accused the President of being corrupt, inept and presiding over bad governance that could spell doom for Northerners nursing presidential ambitions.

[contextly_sidebar id=”BHBo0NyukXewmYcGBwlYJGWq2RV3PO5H”]In a press statement signed by the Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Issahaku Issah Kantajeri, the party condemned Mr. Amidu, saying, “the comments are self-seeking, divisive, tribal, ethnocentric and shallow and therefore should be disregarded by all well-meaning Ghanaians.”

The party said “Mr. Martin Amidu, considering his law background ought to have known better, because it is explicitly clear in Ghana’s constitution that tribe, creed, gender, ethnic or color should not be the basis for political elections.”

The NDC described as “unfortunate,” the anti-corruption crusader’s deliberate failure to appreciate President Mahama’s commitment to the fight against corruption.

“If there is any president in contemporary Ghana who is committed to fighting corruption and who sees all Ghanaians as one people with a common destiny, then it is H. E John Dramani Mahama.”

The statement maintained that “the president has never been corrupt in his entire political career,” and challenged Mr. Martin Amidu to prove otherwise if he has evidence contrary to their claim.

The NDC further called on the ‘citizen vigilante’ to render an unqualified apology to the president or face their wrath.
