He said the ex-convict, who had a beach warrant on his head, resisted lawful arrest by the police, and died through shootout with the police.

“Upon a tip off, police moved to Dacio to arrest a very notorious, very wanted and elusive armed robber, Aposiga Atambasi, 30-years old, who was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds in a house in Dachio. Police on entering the house, were greeted with gun fire from the suspect,  Aposiga Atambasi, and in an attempt to demobilize him, police fired back and in that process he died. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for autopsy, “DCOP Afeku stated.

DCOP Afeku added that three persons namely Abire Ayiguda, 33 years,  landlord of the house, and Emmanuel Anaba 17 years, who was administering herbs to the deceased and Paul Anafo 21 years, will all be put before court for harboring the deceased and for offensive conduct.

He said the police will continue to intensify their visibility and patrols across the region, to ensure that crime is reduced drastically, but appealed to the general public to volunteer information about criminals living with them to enable the police clamp down on their activities.
