The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) is asking government to allocate 400 million cedis for their services in the 2016 budget.
They argue that without such an investment in the sanitation sector, the country’s quest for a clean environment will only remain an illusion.

She said “Government should invest more to improve sanitation levels as well as the provision of the requisite infrastructure for effective refuse management. She says the happenings of June 3, 2015 should serve as a wake-up call for government and stakeholders hence their request.
“We are pleading with the government to pay particular attention to the sanitation sector in the 2016 budget”.
They also asked that some of the funds be allocated for infrastructure needed in the sanitation sector.
The Executive Secretary urged government to grant members of the Association “tax exemption on the equipment they import into the country” this she said will go a long way to help improve the sanitation situation in the country. Sanitation practices in the country have not been the best lately causing gutters, rivers and other water bodies to get choked when it rains an example is the June 3 disaster.
For the members of the ESPA they believe if their calls are heeded to, it will help curb most of the challenges facing the country.
