Anti-corruption agency, the Ghana Integrity initiative( GII), is asking the Ghana Police Service to make public progress on investigations into the recent police recruitment scam.
In March this year, hundreds of unemployed youth turned up at Police training depots for enlistment into the service which later turned out to be a scam.
[contextly_sidebar id=”e3JJmLcYNYGUCGqCDgvRMGiFit99RwUB”]It was later established that the fake recruitment letters, had the signature of its Director General of Human Resource and Administration, COP Patrick Timbillah.
COP Patrick Timbilla was subsequently interdicted and other culprits arrested.
But months after the arrests and interdiction, the Police have not commented on the matter.
In a Citi News interview, Executive Secretary of GII, Vitus Azeem, said it is time the Police service opened up on the matter.
“Unnecessary delays also create the impression that somebody is trying to cover up something or to make Ghanaians forget about the whole matter. And we have emphasized that this is not good for the country’s democracy and our fight against corruption. It’s important that some investigations are conducted into credible allegations of corruption and if people are found to have broken the law they should be properly sanctioned. I think that the police should make their investigations public so that people will know what’s going on and what the outcome will be”
“I heard the immediate past IGP once said that they are not going to allow civil society to pressurize them on this matter. But the truth is that, we need to build people’s confidence in the police service. If your answers to these are negative, then it means that there is something wrong,” he noted.
