The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has indefinitely suspended four constituency chairmen.

The Ashanti Regional secretary of the party, Sam Pyne, confirmed this to Citi News.

According to Mr. Pyne, the four were suspended because they organized some members of the party to protest against the suspension of former National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The four  are Akwasi Nti Asamoah,  Okai Kwanim, Isaac Brenya and  Joseph Dapaah from the Fomena, Ejisu, Asawaase  and Ahafo Ano South East constituencies respectively.

“The issue was that they flouted Article 3(b)(iv) of the party’s constitution, where they did not uphold the decition of NEC that Afoko has been suspended, and that they organized to go on a demonstration against the decision of the party,” said Sam Pyne.

About two hundred members of the NPP converged at the headquarters of the party to protest the decision to suspend Mr. Afoko.

They felt the party breached it laws in suspending Paul Afoko and demanded his reinstatement.

They also delared their support for the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong asking that he be allowed to discharge his duties without interference.

Sam Pyne further stated that “these persons have been suspended pending disciplinary action against them” and also cautioned against indiscipline by members of the party, saying that “the party in the Ashanti Region is not going to tolerate any indiscipline action by members.”

Paul Afoko had earlier commended members of the party for picketing at the party’s head quarters.
