Ishmael Abisiru, who attacked and robbed a banku seller and her son at Rawlings Circle in Madina of their phones and cash, has been put before an Accra Circuit Court.

Abisiru, a driver’s mate and his accomplice, one Bellem, now at large, allegedly pulled up cutlasses and robbed their victims of two mobile phones and daily sales in the sum of GH₡ 950.00.

The court presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh remanded Abisiru into lawful custody to reappear on November 10 for trial to commence.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kweku Bempah, said the complainant Ama Afrakumah and her son, Charles Bonsu sell banku and Tilapia at a spot between Madina Rawlings Circle and Atomic Junction.

According to DSP Bempah, the accused resides at Ashalley Botwe in Accra.

On October 21, this year, at about 02:00 hours, Madam Afrakumah and her son had closed from their point of sale and were going home when they saw two men approaching them.

When the men reached where the complainant and her son were, prosecution said the men pulled out cutlasses and threatened to kill them if they failed to surrender their money and mobile phones.

Prosecution said the complainant asked her son to give the men her hand bag containing a mobile phone and cash of GH₡ 700.00.

Abisiru, who was not satisfied, searched the complainant’s son’s pocket and found his Motorola mobile phone and GH₡ 250.00.

Later during the day, prosecution said the complainant informed a taxi driver of her predicaments. The taxi driver led the complainant to a popular joint known as “soldier bar” where the youth with questionable characters gather.

On reaching there, Abisiru was found drinking.

The prosecutor said the complainant quickly informed the Police and Abisiru was arrested.

When he was quizzed, he admitted robbing the complainant and produced the Motorola mobile phone and GH₡65.00 to the police.

DSP Bempah said Abisiru in his caution statement posited that he committed the crime with one Bellem, now at large.
