The Attorney General (AG) and Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong, has appeared in court to assist the state prosecutor in the GHS 51.2 million judgment debt case involving businessman, Alfred Woyome.

Mr. Woyome is expected to open his defense at the Economic and Financial Division of the Accra High Court.

Also in court is the state prosecutor handling the case, Matthew Amponsah and a team of lawyers from the AG’s Department.

The court, presided over by Justice John Ajet-Nassam last week threw out a submission of ‘no case’ filed by lawyers of Mr Woyome.

Mr Woyome subsequently told the Citi News, the hearing will allow him an opportunity to tell the public what actually happened with regards to circumstances leading to the payment of the GHS 51.2 million judgment debt.

“I think that this opportunity that has come today will give me a court room opportunity to be able to tell the good people of this country about what happened from the beginning to the end for them to understand and take a cue from me,” he said.

He is facing charges of defrauding by false pretences and causing financial loss to the state in the trial that has been ongoing for over two years.
