The Volta River Authority (VRA) says it will add one hundred and ten megawatts of power to the national grid by close of the year 2015.
This was revealed by the Project Manager at VRA, Francis Agbenyo, when the Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, visited the Kpone Power Plant site.
Ghana has in recent months experienced one of the worst power crises which has seen electricity consumers go through a rigorous load shedding programme.

The Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, has been under pressure to end the current power crisis by December, following his promise to Ghanaians.
Speaking to Citi News’ Franklin Badu Jnr, the Project Manager at VRA, Francis Agbenyo, said he was optimistic the power situation will improve by the end of the year.
“In order to increase the efficiency, we are going to add a steam component so that will increase it to 330 so all this is phase one. Then for phase 2, we will add 450n megawatts. In all, after the KTP is completely developed, we will be talking about having between 700 and 800 megawatts of power from this place alone. As this one is being done, we are doing the studies for the other phases and the financing is also being worked on. We are hoping that by the time we commission this, we will go straight away into the construction of the other ones”
“Originally, we are talking about 2018, but by 2019 or 2020, we would have finished everything. But by the end of this year, we would have finished with 110 megawatts, and then between January and February another 110 will be ready” he stated.
