The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, has reiterated the party’s stance that it will be less expensive for the EC to compile a new voters’ register than to deal with the repercussions of using the current “bloated” one .

In a Facebook post after the two-day forum by the Electoral Commission to hear the various positions of the political parties and civil society groups on the matter, Sammy Awuku wrote,

“…The cost of a new credible voters register is cheaper than the cost of violence.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”Th5bdivsSN9yv7CJzunI4psTuJC9xKsO”]Sammy Awuku also expressed his dissatisfaction at what he described as an attempt by the Electoral Commission to ‘deny the youth and the people of Ghana a new and credible voters’ register,’ to this end, he urged the youth to rise and seek the nation’s interest,

“By her posture and utterances, the EC boss is setting the stage to deny the youth and the people of Ghana a new and credible voters register for the 2016 elections. We will not sit down for our future to be toyed with.” He said.

Sammy Awuku added, “Guess it’s time for the Youth to Arise! We cannot afford to fail the masses in 2016. Youth Revolution imminent.”

The NPP has petitioned the EC over a new voters’ register prior to the 2016 general elections. They maintain the current register is bloated and lacks credibility. The Electoral Commission is expected to come out with its final verdict on the matter after the five member panel of eminent Ghanaians has submitted its recommendations.

In response however, the Youth wing of the governing NDC has dismissed the claims by the NPP seeking to incite the youth to cause mayhem over the debate for a new voters’ register.

A statement signed by  the Youth organizer of the party, Sidii Abubakar Musah further said the NDC is not surprised at the development but described the NPP as ‘disgracing itself at the forum with its weak-kneed call for a new voters’ register.’
