One of the parliamentary hopefuls in the Ledzokuku Constituency of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region, Gilbert Mensah Amartey, is demanding the disqualification of two other aspirants for illegally registering non-NDC members for the upcoming primaries.

According to the spokesperson for Gilbert Mensah Amartey, Ernest Frempong, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Benita Sena Okity-Duah, and Daniel Amartey Mensah,   have used their positions in the party to influence the registration of non party members.

Speaking to Citi News, Spokesperson for Gilbert Mensah Amartey, Ernest Frempong indicated that the disqualification of the aspirants will bring peace in the constituency.

[contextly_sidebar id=”qCS3DJvH8sDcw44RiNPMVK1ArCUlYasO”]This follows the destruction of the NDC’s voters’ register for the Ledzokuku constituency on Thursday.

Some angry members of the party believed to be loyalists of the incumbent MP Sena Okitey Duah set the register ablaze and thorn the rest into pieces with the claim that the register is full of non-NDC members.

According to reports, they tore the register and set it ablaze just when it was about to be distributed to centers across the constituency.

Spokesperson for Gilbert Mensah Amartey, one of the parliamentary hopefuls in the constituency wants the incumbent MP and Daniel to be disqualified if peace is to be restored in the constituency.

“We want the party hierarchy from national to region to disqualify Daniel Mensah Amartey and Hon. Sena Okitey Duah because they influenced the biometric registration exercise in the constituency. Sena registered people with the help of the constituency executives on the supervision of Patrick Agbedzi who is the Chairman of the Constituency and Isaac Atippoe who is the Secretary. We confronted them when the issue came up and they were called for questioning. It was because of the relationship between the MP and the constituency executives that mandated Daniel Amartey Mensah who is an executive member of NEC to also bring in books”

“And my difficulty is that, he was also supervising the same exercise in the Central Region; and so we are asking whether he took the books from the Central Region to the constituency to register people on his own supervision. He should be disqualified for us to have peace in the constituency so that it will pave way for Gilbert Mensah Amartey and Nortey-Duah because they did not have books from anywhere to also register people”.

But in response to the allegations on Citi Eyewitness News, Isaac Attipoe, the Constituency Secretary, denied the executives connived with the incumbent MP to register non-members.
