After days of uncertainty, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will attend the Electoral Commission’s forum on proposals for a new voters’ register.

[contextly_sidebar id=”58p9EumgpDg5TZAT0dYW6yD3gUkVASMY”]The party, which has been the lead advocate for a new voters’ register, has raised concerns about the objectivity of some members of the EC’s panel tasked to hold the two-day public hearing.

A member of the NPP and former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere Darko, had said two members of the panel including V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe, had made public their position on calls for a new voters’ register hence the need for the parties to boycott the forum.

Meanwhile, after a crunch Steering Committee meeting on Tuesday, the NPP decided to attend the forum slated for tomorrow [Thursday].

According to the NPP’s Director of Elections, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah “what we did was to raise concerns that we had about the composition of the panel and at no point in time did the NPP say we won’t attend the forum”.

He said although “the Commission has officially been notified, they have not received any response from them.”

“Whether the response comes before or not, we will go. And I think nothing stops us from registering what concerns that we have at the forum. But the case that we’ve put forward still stands” he added.
