A mob from the Changli community in the Tamale Metropolis on Monday night attacked the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) mission hospital and wounded three nurses on duty.
One of the nurses, Abubakari Abideen in a Citi News interview narrated that some young men from the Changli community visited one of the wards with noisy phone calls.
According to him, one of the nurses prompted them that the noise was unacceptable to the patients on admission.
This, Abubakari Abideen said angered the young men who went into the Changli community and mobilized their cronies to launch a gruesome attack on the nurses.
He said the mob physically assaulted some of them who resisted and also destroyed the hospital properties.
Management of the hospital reported the issue to the police and investigations are underway.
Nurses’ strike
The Nurses and other paramedical staff on Tuesday laid down their tools in protest.
They temporarily shut down the health facility and demanded the arrest of the hooligans.
According to them, they have suffered from such unwarranted attacks thrice.
Management met to decide the duration of the hospital’s temporary closure.
Some stranded patients loitering around the hospital premises condemned the mob action.
The Tamale SDA hospital augment’s the services of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
