Four persons were killed instantly when a truck ran over them on Sunday morning at Gushegu in the Northern Region.

The victims before their death, had been attacked by some suspected armed robbers, who ordered them to lie on the streets as they robbed them and other passengers of their belongings.

Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, Ebenezer Tetteh, said the driver of the truck ran into the victims after they ignored the orders of the four robbers to stop.

“At about 9.30 this morning, a Tamale-Gushegu bound bus was attacked. On reaching a town called Shegu, four hooded armed men stopped the car, the passengers came down and they were instructed by the robbers to lie on the ground face-down as they robbed them of their valuables. Suddenly, a bus from the opposite direction was approaching them and the robbers signaled the bus to stop, but the driver failed to stop so he run into the passengers who were lying on the road. As a result of that, four out of the lot who were lying on the ground were run over by the
bus and they died” he said.

According to Ebenezer Tetteh, scores of passengers who have sustained severe injuries are receiving treatment at the Gushiegu Government Hospital.

He says the driver of the bus together with some passengers fled into the bush after the incident, adding that investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspected robbers.
