Professor Mba Akabzaa adjudged 2014 best Chief Director

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Petroleum, Professor Thomas Mba Akabzaa, has been adjudged the best performing Chief Director (CD) for the 2014 reporting year, at a maiden excellence awards night for Chief Directors in Ghana.

The maiden event was held at Holy Trinity Health Spar in Sogakope to recognize and celebrate excellent performance in service delivery.

Per the assessment, the performance of 26 chief directors were appraised in 2013 and 2014 based on the execution of performance agreements at the various ministries.

Prof. Akabzaa, who was adjudged the second runner up in the 2013 assessment, scored 91 per cent and ranked excellent to top his colleagues in 2014.

Mr. Maurice Tanko Abisa from the Ministry of Agriculture, who topped the ranking in 2013, emerged as the 2nd runner up in 2014.

Mr. Enoch Hermans Cobbinah of the Ministry of Education, the 2nd runner up in 2013, has been adjudged the 1st runner up in 2014.

In his welcome address, the Head of Civil Service, Nana Agyekum Dwamena, hinted that the award would be extended to all public sector workers in July next year and encouraged all civil servants to give out their best in service delivery to citizenry. 

In an interview with Citi News, Professor Thomas Mba Akabzaa expressed his appreciation to organizers for putting up such an impressive award scheme.  

He dedicated the award to the minister and his deputy as well as the entire staff of the ministry of petroleum who worked hard to achieve their common targets.

The trio went home with award plaques and citations.

Prof. Akabzaa holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Geology from the University of Ghana, as well as other post graduate degrees from a number of universities abroad.

He was the Head of Geology Department of University of Ghana (UG) between 2008 and 2010.
