The leadership of the Ghana Tennis Federation is set to hold crunch talks with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mustapha, regarding the release of funds for participation in the upcoming Davies Cup in Egypt.
Ghana’s Tennis contingent is expecting to build on their success from the 11th edition of the All African Games, where the pair of George Darko and Wisdom Adjrako, won Gold in the men’s double.
According to Citi Sports sources, the Sports Ministry failed to process the budget handed to them by the Tennis Federation, with the reason that their knowledge of the current economic situation indicates a lack of funds at the Finance Ministry.
The Tennis Federation will require an amount of $49,000 to cover all expenses which include air fares, internal transportation in Egypt, feeding, use of facilities as well as maintenance of their equipment.
The Secretary General of the Federation, Philipina Frimpong, believes the nation will be missing a great opportunity if the current situation is not resolved soon.
“Our next line of action is to meet the Minister because we haven’t heard from him. I would like to find out if there is any way he can help us out of the current situation. This is the World Cup of Tennis and if this had been soccer, the entire nation would have been turned on its head’ she lamented.
“We are at a threshold of success because our players are extremely confident that this might be our big break. We have seen the teams that are coming and assessed the players that are coming to participate; and we stand a very good chance” she noted.
The Davies Cup will begin on October 26 2015, and run until 30th.
