About 2,500 aged in the Volta region are to enjoy preferential treatment in accessing social services under the EBAN welfare program.

This follows the outdooring of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s support program christened EBAN.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ywNEjLJ9NgQGNlRwqVVehdh5RclZgGaa”]The Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has introduced the EBAN Elderly Welfare System to provide the aged easy access to social amenities.

By acquiring the EBAN Elderly Welfare Card, people of 65 years and above would enjoy quick services at hospitals, banks and other public places without joining queues for those services.

They would also gain easy access to transportation and enjoy 50% rebate on Metro Mass Transport fares.

Speaking at the 12th anniversary celebrations of the shepherd’s Centre of ageing Mr Nat-Khing Tackie, the Volta Regional Director of the Social Welfare said about 2500 elderly representing six districts in the Volta region would be registered under the project.

“From next week about 2500 elderly persons are expected to be registered for the elderly welfare cards. This card is to enable elderly persons have priority access to social services” he said.

The districts include Keta,Kpando,Hohoe, Jasikan, Kadjebi and Nkwanta.

Established in 2003 by the Moderator of the E.P Church Rt Rev Dr Seth Agidi, the Shepherd’s Centre of Ageing, Ghana (SCAG) is a community based inter-faith, non-denominational organization that promotes and supports successful ageing in an era of rapid dislocation of the traditional family system through care for the elderly and the aged.

The anniversary was celebrated in Hohoe on the theme,” breaking the myth of ageing.”
