The executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region are accusing the party’s National leadership of scheming to disrupt Nana Akufo-Addo’s tour of the region.

The NPP’s National Chairman and General Secretary, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong are scheduled to launch the party’s new membership card in the region on Wednesday.

[contextly_sidebar id=”6dQRbnmT4UHuHOIUOh2dwgI28bz5apei”]Meanwhile the event coincides with the ‘Rise and Build’ tour of the party’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo which comes off tomorrow [Wednesday] in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Kumasi based Nhyira FM, the party’s Ashanti Regional Secretary,  Samuel Pyne expressed shock at the conduct of the National Chairman and his cohorts.

He said they would resist any attempt to launch the ID card since it cannot precede the tour of Nana Akufo-Addo in the region.

Samuel Pyne explained that “if care is not taken, the launch of the card will divert attention from the message the party intends to put across.”

He added that the regional executives will boycott the programme.

“The first time I’m hearing about this launch is on your station today…how come I, the regional secretary who is expected to lead the supposed cards registration is not aware?” he quizzed.

“Nana Addo is expected to be in Kumasi as part of his campaign this Wednesday why do we then want to use this issue to divert attention.”

But spokesperson for the National Chairman, Nana Yaw Osei disagreed saying they planned the launch about a week ago thus did not know it would clash with the flag bearer’s tour.

In a related development, the NPP has postponed the launch of the ID cards in the region.

They claimed a new date will be fixed soon.

“It is a move to help party leaders to work together to support Nana Addo’s tour beginning from Thursday in the Ashanti Region.”
