A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Talensi constituency are threatening to head to court to halt the inauguration of the newly elected assembly members for the Talensi district.

They have accused the DCE for the area, Edward Awoonore over what they describe as ‘illegal procedures’ in the selection of 30 percent of appointees into the yet to be inaugurated assembly.

The group further accused Mr. Awoonore of sidelining perceived supporters’ of the Member of Parliament for Talensi, B.T Baba.

Addressing a press conference in Tongo, spokesperson for the youth, George Ayanboya described the development as an attempt to sabotage the MP and breed disunity in the party.

George Awoonore who is also the Constiency Youth Organizer stated that the move contradicts the provisions of article 242 of the 1992 constitution.

“The DCE has gone ahead to make appointments without consulting any authority including interest groups, traditional leaders, and the founding father. We have been to the deputy regional minister Daniel Syme over the matter who ordered the DCE to meet us and when we called the DCE, he gave us a conditional agreement. Between now and Monday if this matter is not addressed, we will seek a redress from the court,” he said.

“We are ensuring that the appointments of the appointees by the DCE be revoked for a proper consultation to be done for such appointments. We want the authorities to ensure that these people are not inaugurated on Tuesday so that proper consultation is done before the inauguration,” Mr. Ayanboya stated.
