The immediate past Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) Prof. Kwame Karikari will deliver CDD-Ghana’s 2014 Kronti ne Akwamu (Democracy and Good Governance) lecture on Tuesday, April 29th 2014 at the British Council Hall, a statement issued in Accra has said.
Theme for this year’s lecture is “The Paradox of Voice without Accountability” and it will commence at 5:30 pm, the statement said.
It said, “Prof. Kwame Karikari has championed the cause of media freedom and independence in West Africa for several years. For many years, Prof. Karikari, an accomplished professor of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana, he has campaigned for social justice, an open and accountable government in Ghana and other countries in West Africa”.
A former Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Professor Karikari has actively campaigned for the passage of the Right to Information bill which is currently before the Parliament of Ghana.
“A flagship public event of the Center, the Kronti ne Akwamu lectures feature prominent scholars and activists of local and international repute whose interests and work focus on the promotion of democracy, good governance and inclusive development,” the statement said. “They are invited as speakers to share their knowledge and insights on these issues with Ghanaian policy-makers, academics, civil society leaders and the media”.
“The lectures are used to stimulate public debate and reflection on key aspects of African democratic governance and development and aid the search for appropriate reforms. The public is invited,” it added.
